Miniatures are really cool to do. This week I’m painting an ACEO of a Southwest gate for my eBay auction. The outline of the basic design is drawn up on the gessoed surface. If you would like to find out more about how I prepare the support for my ACEOs CLICK HERE. Then the bright, sun touched New Mexico countryside seen through the open gate is painted.

Wisteria cascades over the rounded adobe wall as the red gate is painted. A mix of Cadmium Red Deep + Magenta is used for the shadow, pure Cadmium Red Light for the light portion of the gate. In the image on the right a teal container waits to be planted. I’m beginning to delineate the gently curved pavers that will lead the viewer’s eye to the lush field of wildflowers. My fast flying brush is a bit blurred. To see any of the images enlarged just click on the picture.
For those of you unfamiliar with the term, ACEO stands for Art Cards Editions and Originals, a category on eBay that has become quite the rage for collectors over the last few years. The painted image is required to measure 2 1/2 inches by 3 1/2 inches, the size of a baseball trading card. When I first attempted to paint this small it was rather daunting, now I enjoy seeing what can be done in this format.
Radiant Gate ACEO 3 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches
It is so fun to paint an intimate, flower filled courtyard with the gate flung open, revealing the sunlit landscape beyond. Radiant Gate offers a spot of happiness and is ready to bring joy to your life. Or perhaps you would like to share this with a special someone in your life, ACEOs make wonderful Gifts. This is an Original Oil Painting on Strathmore archival linen and is signed on the back. Several of our Team Senkarik members collect these little originals and frame them in a regular frame with a wide, 4 inch matte. The ones we’ve seen look pretty cool.

Bidding begins at a penny. The Auction ends Sunday, June 17 at 8 PM in Texas. That’s Central Time. So…HAPPY BIDDING! Hugs, Mikki Senkarik
