The final step is to peel off the tape protecting the white frame. Many times as I get close to finishing a painting Jack will ask, “Is it a peel yet?” So when I’m done I’ll announce with much enthusiasm, “It’s a PEEL!”
The painting looks a lot different without the blue tape covering up the white frame. Jack came up with this method of framing when we lived in Hawaii. We were in several galleries both in Hawaii and back on the mainland, all wanting different kinds of frames. Being on the island it was very expensive to get the frames shipped to Hawaii and then ship them back again to the mainland with the finished artwork. So Jack developed our Senkarik Signature Framing and we have been using it ever since. Our collectors really like it and the colors in my paintings are much more vibrant with the white frame than in a traditional gold leaf or dark wood frame.

So… here is the finished painting. I have to admit it’s a very rewarding feeling to have completed a piece this large. It has been a lot of fun and I so appreciate you following along. Your comments have been welcome and very encouraging. Several of you have asked if I will continue to allow you to visit the studio and watch me paint. YES, a most definite YES. Please do keep coming back to see what is on my easel. Hugs, Mikki Senkarik.

My first thing I check every morning when I fire up my computer is the progress on this inspired piece. I’m almost sad to see it finished, the journey has been so much fun. Can’t wait for the next one.

Was very interesting and nice to get some insider notes on how a painter progress through the steps. I have a better feel for what all went into our paintings and how you approach them. The painting is beautiful and whom ever purchase it will have many years of enjoyment.

Ahmed,
the best way to become an artist is just start painting. My blog shows you our basic palette of colors. Like the NIKE commercial says, “Just do it!”
