Spring is right around the corner. We saw our first bluebonnet today, that means winter is almost over. Our hearts go out to those of you living in the frozen tundra. BRRRR! I honestly don’t know how you survive the cold. Jack and I are certified Wimps and that’s with a capital “W”.
Today’s project is for our gallery in Santa Fe. They’ve recently sold a couple of pieces and need replacements. The photo above sparked my imagination. Cooking is not big on my list, but gardening is so we are going to move this cute little setting from Taos to Santa Fe and convert it to a flower shop.
Using a trusty, extra fine point Sharpie pen the ideas swirling around in my mind are captured in my sketchbook. A gate is added in the distance so the viewer can wander through the painting. The building in the right foreground helps to form the alley. The little sun in the upper left corner of the sketch is to remind me of the light source for this piece. To see any of these images larger just click on the picture. Tomorrow I’ll begin sketching on the canvas. Hope to see you then. Hugs, Mikki Senkarik

Nikki,
It may be spring in the south but we are still up to our eyeballs in snow
in the northeast. It is a bit warmer today but more snow expected on the
weekend. I like the looks of this new painting and can’t wait to see it
finished.
