Excitement on Senkarik Pond

This morning was incredible. Forget gardening! Molly, our rescue kitty, and I went down to the swing by our little pond, basked in the sun and watched the wildfowl. We enjoyed seeing the Green-winged Teals feeding, flapping and cavorting around. To see any of these images larger you can just click the picture.

A striking black and white Stilt poked along the edge of the pond, paying us no attention what-so-ever. I love his reflection.

A few Northern Shovelers slid gracefully across the gently rippled surface of the water.

Molly decided enough of the bird watching, she was going to hunt something. She loves to rustle through the grass, finding all kinds of little critters to chase and bring to the back door as presents for Jack and me.

All of a sudden there was a loud crash and the thunder of hooves. A deer bounded across directly in front of us and jumped into the pond. Water splashed everywhere. Close on its heels was a large Mexican Red Wolf that came to an abrupt halt at the water’s edge. I jumped up and shouted for Molly, she ran up the nearest tree. Fortunately it was close by. Before I could even grab the camera the wolf whirled and was gone. We borrowed this picture from natureisawesome.net. Molly was more than happy to be rescued from her perch and get carried back up the hill to the house. WHEW! What excitement on Senkarik Pond this morning. Have a wonderful day. Hugs, Mikki Senkarik

I love your pond and animals-all. Nature is wonderful to behold and those reflections look so exaggerated but they’re real – amazing. Glad your kitty has claws and can climb to safety. Still, a beautiful wolf.

Whew! Got your heart pumping, didn’t it? Darrell says he saw one at Las Lagunitas when we were living out there. No one wanted to believe it was a wolf but it has come out in the news that some have migrated down from up N of Santa Fe. The difference is, he was in the car, you were not. :>)
