A Kiss of Spring

Now, let’s get some color going here. The Azaleas are warm mixes in various proportions of Permanent Rose + White and Permanent Rose + Cadmium Red Light + White. The large mass of flowers is blocked in first.

Next the leaves are painted in and around the colorful flowers. I use several mixes of Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Yellow Medium for the foliage. An occasional stroke of Pthalo Blue + White is made to add coolness in the depths of the leaves.

I had originally thought of yellow Daffodils in the foreground. However, after the Azaleas were finished I decided that White Narcissus would look better. The crisp White flowers with yellow cups, or corona, pop against the warm Pink Azaleas.

The smaller tree on the left bothered me, the piece felt too crowded so I took it out. Also the trunk of the tree to the right of the bridge was too large. Three smaller trees look more natural. I went back in and worked on the reflections a bit more, adding some greens and soft grays reflecting down from the trees behind the bridge. I love this old, red camelback style bridge nestled near the Thompson Neely House at the Washington Crossing State Park in New Hope. It’s especially handsome paired with the soft greens of new leaves. Doesn’t this time of year make your heart sing? Take a moment to sit on the bank and enjoy A Kiss of Spring. Hugs, Mikki Senkarik

Beautifully done Mikki. I can’t wait to see if people recognize the location in the painting when they visit the gallery. Looking forward to comments from locals after I begin posting this on Facebook. There’s a nice spot on the walls waiting for the arrival.

Very impressive your painting, I like how you did your background because it highlights your bridge. Water has a beautiful reflection with excellent movement. Your forward plan is stunning and gives a depth relative to your background. Very nice choice of colors. Lucie bye
