Muy Caliente!

SG3513 Muy Caliente step 1OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’m starting on a new series of paintings that are a little different for our annual Collector Event in Santa Fe. Jack came up with a great name for the grouping, “UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL: Vignettes from Senkarik’s Garden”.

SG3513 Muy Caliente step 2

Red Poppies fire up our garden in the spring so I have wonderful models for this close up. I want the viewer to feel immersed in the blossoms. But even being this close to the subject I still need to give the feeling of depth. Therefore the most distant flowers are painted with mixes of Magenta and Cadmium Red Deep which makes them cooler.

SG3513 Muy Caliente step 3

The closest leaves are made a brighter green with mixtures of Pthalo Blue + Lemon Yellow. Then I begin adding the bright Cadmium Red Light blossoms. I have to carefully “Lay” the red paint over the green. I don’t want to pick up any of the underlying color on my brush and muddy the Poppies.

Those Red Poppies just explode against all of the surrounding greens! Whew, they’re MUY CALIENTE!!!!!

Painted sides on the Gallery Wrap canvas add even more dimension. Remember, if you would like to see any of the pictures larger just click on the image.

Now here’s a little something to sooth the sizzle. Cool, Cool Bluebonnets fill our garden at the same time as the HOT Poppies, chilling off the heat! I’m having a lot of fun with these. We love our garden, the ebb and flow of color and texture is so exciting to watch throughout the seasons. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to share this with our collectors. The official RSVP Team Senkarik Collector Event is Saturday, August 31 at 4 PM but we’ll also be in the gallery on Friday. For more information, to make your RSVP or get on the list to receive a full show catalog just email us at Hugs, Mikki and Jack
