We love Daylilies. Unfortunately so do the deer in our area. The night after I took this picture they came through and ate all of the blooms, as well as most of the leaves. Thank goodness I had shot lots of pictures.
Loropetalum bushes are planted in the bed at the far end of the Daylilies. I’ll use them as the backdrop for my Daylilies. Mixtures of Viridian Green + Alizarin Crimson + White are perfect for their cool purplish-green foliage.
Next the long, strap-like foliage is painted. The areas where the Daylilies will be are left uncovered. Warmer greens are made by mixing various proportions of Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Yellow Medium + White. The leaves are done first because they would be really difficult to paint around the finished flowers.
As I work on the flowers I carefully “Lay” the thick paint on top of the leaves, making sure not to pick up any of the underlying color.
Dazzling Daylilies 14″ x 14″ Original Oil Painting
Dazzling Daylilies is part of the UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL series for our annual Collector Event in Santa Fe. It’s fun coming up with some completely different paintings for the show.
We love how the painted sides look. What do you think? The event is August 30 and 31. Hope you’ll come join in the fun. Jack and I promise to give you a big Texas Hug! For more information or to get on the list to receive a show catalog please email us at senkarik@senkarik.com. Hugs, Mikki Senkarik

Hi Don’t know if I was the “Rob” you were writing that to; but thought it was great reminders of good basics we ALL need to remember and remember all the time!. Sent it on to my Wimberley Fine Arts Center – Artist Collaborative bunch. Sales have been slow June and so far in July for them too and some are getting very discouraged. . And I like your newest efforts on the small little paintings at most attractive prices! Don’t know if you saw it, but I bid on one at w/s prices and couldn’t get it! That’s good news for you and me!! (Maybe it helped drive up the price a bit?!) If you ever get ahead with these, I would take a couple of “Dazzling Daylillies” to sell here. Would give me new images to show my client list and keep Senkarik name out there with fresh art.
