I saved paint from the previous session to use today. Dabs of the sky color are pushed against the sides of a plastic cup, then covered with water. This keeps air from getting to the paint.

I begin blocking in the planes of Mary Kay’s face. My wrist is braced on the mahl stick to steady my hand as I paint the details.

After the majority of the face is covered I work on her eyes. If you’d like to see any of the pictures larger just click on the image.

The sky around the head is repainted, this way I can work wet-into-wet to keep the edges soft. Various combination of Ultramarine Blue + Cadmium Orange + MUD are mixed for Mary Kay’s hair.
