VIDEO DEMONSTRATION: Initial Wash-In

The original photo of Quinn is taped to my easel, making it easy to refer to. Bracing my wrist against the mahl stick steadies my hand as I continue working on her face. Thin washes of MUD (Ultramarine Blue + Alizarin Crimson) + Liquin are used for the shading.

Quinn has the cutest little dimple on her chin! The corner of my Bright (square) is used to make it. Please keep in mind as you read through my blog, you may click on any of the images to see them larger.

A number 4 Bright brush is used to draw her tiny hands.

Her left hand did not show in the photograph I was given for reference so I had to make it up. I decided it would be fun for her to be holding some flowers she just picked! I may have her hand just a bit small, it will be no problem to make it a little bigger when I get to painting. Thanks for following along today.

“Billboards of Happiness” on Tile!

November 8, 2017

I’ve been working on some TOP SECRET commissions so I don’t have a painting for you today. It’s that time of year to be helping Santa in his workshop! BUT, while I’m sequestered in the hidden studio I’d like to introduce you to a wonderful product…….Senkarik “Billboards of Happiness” on Tile! And Jack’s pieces are also available!

Years ago Jack and I began working with Dave Bosely, and his wife Peaches. They developed a home grown business, Artwork on Tile, and reproduce my paintings, as well as Jack’s, as high quality murals on various types of tile. These make wonderful accents around the house.

Several collectors who own Jack’s and my paintings also have murals in their kitchens, bathrooms, dining rooms and offices. We have many more collectors who proudly display just the murals. The tile art installations offer a more affordable alternative to Senkarik and White Original Oil Paintings.

If you are interested in installing one of these beautiful murals in your space here is a link to their website. Just put my name in the search box…

You’ll have fun browsing! There are lots of options for you to consider. You may call Dave and personally discuss your particular design needs, he gives FREE consultations and quotes. I guarantee you will love working with him and Peaches, they are delightful!

Please Pray for Sutherland Springs

November 5, 2017
I’ve gotten several emails asking if I’m OK. Thanks to all of you for your concern. The terrible shooting in the church at Sutherland Springs is about 35 miles southeast of San Antonio, not far from where we used to live in Floresville. What an awful tragedy. We have dear friends in Floresville and LaVernia, very near Sutherland Springs. I pray fervently none of them, their families or friends were involved. Also the spot I chose for Jack’s ashes in a beautiful field of wildflowers is only a few miles south of Sutherland Springs. We’ve driven through this lovely little Texas community many times. I was at a church luncheon when we first got the news. Our Pastor immediately stopped the proceedings and we prayed for everyone involved. I’m completely stunned and can’t even begin to understand how someone can do this. Please pray for all of those touched by this awful shooting.

My STORE is OPEN!

November 4, 2017

It’s been a long time in development but I now have a STORE on Senkarik.com! It’s officially OPEN FOR BUSINESS. Or “BIDNESS” as Jack would say.

I’m excited to offer several different sets of Folded Note Cards, 4 1/4 inches by 5 1/2 inches, with envelopes included. All six cards in each set are the same and have at least 4 high quality reproductions of my colorful “Billboards of Happiness”. The front, inside and back of one of our designs is shown above. All cards have images inside but we’ve made sure to leave plenty of room for a personal, handwritten message. These make great gifts or Stocking stuffers; Christmas isn’t that far away! AND…..we’ve even had collectors frame these beautiful cards to display on their wall!

These high quality cards are the same size as the Senkarik designs and feature Jack’s painting, “Peace in the Valley”. This my absolute favorite piece of his. I remember as Jack was working on it I kept saying how much I hated to see this one go to his gallery, it reminded me so much of the 23rd Psalm. When Jack was finished he turned the painting around and wrote on the back, “To Mikki, the Love of my Life”! It’s hung right beside my easel ever since. Now I’m sharing “Peace in the Valley” with you; there are six note cards in a package and verses 1-4 of the 23rd Psalm are printed on the inside.

ALSO, I’m now offering a line of Museum Quality Prints. These come in a variety of styles including prints on paper, metal, wood and acrylic. Framing is also available. The pieces above are just a few of the many colorful images you will find in our Store.

Limited Original – Escape to Tofino

November 2, 2017

Today we’re embellishing the second Giclee for my client. This one is smaller, 18 inches by 24 inches. As with “Echoes of the Mediterranean”, this Giclee on canvas of “Escape to Tofino” is taped to a piece of 4 ply cardboard before I begin painting on it.

Sunlight streaming across the water at the base of the distant mountains is highlighted as well as the foam collecting along the rocky banks. The furthest buildings and sailboats are also repainted, accenting the light hitting them. You may click on the image, enlarging it to see this better.

Next the tree tops on the far point, illuminated by the sun, are enhanced.

It’s fun working on the quaint little marina, fishing  and sail boats across the sound. My wrist is braced on my mahl stick, steadying my hand as I delineate the fine details.

Moving to the foreground the fence lining the terrace is highlighted.

I repaint the tabletop with a warm white made of White + a bit of Cadmium Orange + a touch of Ultramarine Blue. This makes it come forward of the boats and water lights in the distance which are made of a cooler white mixed with White + a little Ultramarine Blue. Then the lines separating the tiles are drawn with a fine liner brush dipped in a mix of MUD (Ultramarine Blue + Alizarin Crimson) + Liquin.

Tall Delphiniums are painted with combinations of Magenta + White, while the Daylilies are various mixes of Alizarin Crimson + Cadmium Red Light, Cadmium Red Light + Cadmium Orange and Pure Cadmium Orange. The foliage of both plants is made with Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Yellow Medium.

Bright Pink Rhodendrons are mixes of Permanent Rose + White.

Geraniums are repainted with mixes of Cadmium Red Deep, Cadmium Red Deep + Cadmium Red Light and Cadmium Red Light. Leaves are Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Lemon Yellow. The final touch is to accentuate the light sparkling on the wine bottle and glasses! We’re done! Thanks for following along today! HUGS,
