Villa and Palms

VIDEO DEMONSTRATION: Beginning to Paint the Villa

The awing, shading the balcony, casts a shadow across the round tower.

It seems only appropriate that we have a French Door opening to the balcony! It’s made of Cobalt Blue + White. You may click on the image to view an enlargement of this, as well as the other pictures.

The entire surface of the awning is covered in white to begin, establishing the light and shadow pattern. Then stripes are carefully drawn into the wet paint with a mixture of Magenta + Liquin.

A lighter shade of Cobalt Blue + White is used for the portion of the shutters illuminated by the bright sunshine.

WHEW! Still more to go on the villa, we’ll continue in our next session. Hope you’ll come watch. I’ll have more VIDEOS! Hugs,

    Dear Mikki,

    This is So lovely!

I can’t tell you how much I appreciate how hard you work to share all that you share! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

May I please ask you to share the brands and colors you use? I’m not sure when to use the Winton and when to use the more expensive Winsor Newton artist grade paint. Which colors are better in either the student or the artist grade?

Also, on another note: I’m meeting with a dear friend who lost her husband last week. I’m so sad that I cannot get to the memorial service next week, so we are meeting Wednesday. Please pray for me Mikki, so I can comfort her. She is a dear Christian lady. We’ve been friends for over 20 years. This is so hard, as I am quite an empathetic person. It is hurting me so much.

Thank you for being you! Love, Donna

    Thank you Donna,

I use Winson Newton WINTON Oils for ALL of my colors except Pthalo Blue. For that I use Grumbacher Pre-Tested Professional Thalo Blue. It’s much richer in hue. Also some of the special colors like Pthalo Turquoise Blue and Sevres Green are not available in WINTON but Rembrandt is very good.

My heart goes out to you and your friend. Yes, I will keep you both in my prayers. I highly recommend GriefShare. This helped me through my journey after Our Lord took Jack to Heaven. When she is ready I suggest she sign up for a program in her area. It’s usually once a week for about 12 weeks. GREAT SUPPORT GROUP. Here is their website:

They also have a daily email newsletter that you can sign up for. It’s VERY HELPFUL, it would be good for both you and your friend. I understand your empathy and that will help her so much. Sit with her, hold her hand, hug her, cry with her. That’s so important. Also, when she is ready ask her to talk about her husband. To share her favorite memories, it’s incredibly healing. But most of all just being there and listening is the most wonderful gift you can give her. Continue to call her over the long haul. It’s those long months after, when everyone else goes on with their lives, that are the hardest.

I appreciate you being on my Team Senkarik! With BIG HUGS, Mikki
