Whispering Wings

May 27, 2020

Well, we reopened our Church for Worship last weekend and the plan our Team came up with worked wonderfully. Thanks for all of your encouraging comments, support and prayers. Next Saturday and Sunday we are adding another service and moving up to 50% capacity. WHEW, it’s a big task and I’m still SUPER BUSY but have found a few hours to get back to painting. It felt great to step up to the easel again and play with color! Decided to do some small, 6 inch by 6 inch pieces since my time is limited. First step is to sketch my design on the Ampersand Cradled Panel with a thin oil wash of MUD (2 parts Ultramarine Blue + 1 part Alizarin Crimson) + Liquin.

The background is several mixes in different proportions of White + Pthalo Blue + a touch of Lemon Yellow and White + Pthalo Blue. Then the stems of the Lilies are painted, wet into wet, with combinations of Cadmium Yellow Medium + Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Orange + White. Please remember as you read my blog, you may click on any of the images to see them larger.

The Tiger Lilies are made with Cadmium Orange + Cadmium Red Light + Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Orange + Cadmium Red Light, pure Cadmium Orange and Cadmium Orange + Cadmium Yellow Medium.

My heart dances in delight when I hear the “Whispering Wings” of a Hummingbird, flitting among brilliantly colored flowers swaying in the breeze! Thanks for following along! With Hugs and Smiles,

A Day to REMEMBER!

May 25, 2020

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
 John 15:13

Memorial Day is a time to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. From the first patriots who died resisting the British crown, to those who have given the last measure of devotion in the War on Terror, every American generation has paid a steep price to preserve OUR liberty. It’s important that we remember those brave individuals to whom we owe so much. I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all of the brave men and women serving in the military. We appreciate not only the sacrifices they have made but also that of their families. Moms, Dads, Husbands, Wives, Brothers, Sisters and Children. So many have suffered and given their lives so we can be safe in this great country. By the Grace of God we are fortunate enough to have been born in the United States.

We are the Home of the Free BECAUSE of the Brave!
So as you’re enjoying your special celebrations today please say a quiet prayer and thank you for these wonderful men and women who gave their lives for us.
HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

A Fish Out of Water!

May 16, 2020

You may have been wondering what I’ve been up to since I haven’t blogged for a while. WELL, I’ve been asked to lead the WELCOME HOME TEAM that is responsible for making our Church SAFE for return to services in our Worship Center on May 24th. We are limited to 25% capacity but re-opening requires LOTS of Logistical Planning. Sanitizing, Social Distancing, Greeters, Ushers, Elders, Signage and doing an Educational Video for our Congregation. Frankly I feel like a Fish Out of Water. Or better yet, an Artist out of the Studio! Fortunately God has blessed me with an amazing Team that is showing the way: helping, supporting and encouraging.

At least designing and painting signs was somewhat familiar territory. Although I haven’t done any hand lettering for signs since High School, like riding a bicycle, it came back pretty quickly.

We don’t want to be the COVID COPS. Had to come up with some fun ways to say MASKS MANDATORY without sounding quite so harsh. Looking at these you might think I was a crazy cat lady! You may click on the picture to see it larger.

Some of our cleaning team did a test run on sanitizing all the pews. We have 40 min. between services to Git ‘er Done! And we found the time to be totally adequate for our crew to sanitize pews, the pulpit, other touch points in the Worship Center, doors and restrooms. We have to work quickly, with three services on Sunday Morning it will be a good workout.

We took a little break from practicing to watch the Thunderbirds Fly Over the Medical Center which is just a block away from my Church. This was to honor all corona virus Front Line Workers and First Responders. How thankful we are for not only the sacrifices they make, but their families as well. Please keep them in your prayers.

Going to Church will be different for a while, I’m just so thankful that we can begin moving in this direction. Our primary concern is the safety of our Shepherd Family, so we’re moving in baby steps. I’ve been super busy and haven’t had a chance to paint, hopefully will be able to get back to the easel soon. Just thought you’d like to what I’ve been up to! Please pray the virus will be eradicated soon and everyone will be able to return back to a more normal life. With Big Hugs,

This Kitty is SAD

May 15, 2020

First of all I would like to thank all of you who purchased masks with Jack’s and my paintings on them. I am so sad and disappointed that most of us have not received our orders yet. Fine Art America, who produces and ships all of my Prints, Apparel and Gift Items, has been overwhelmed with mask orders. Far more than they ever anticipated. AND….like the rest of the world, they are working fast and furiously to find more.

One of my collectors emailed in complete frustration, “By the time I get my masks in a couple of weeks I won’t even need them anymore!”

Think about it, wouldn’t that be an incredible BLESSING? That in just a few, short weeks COVID-19 would be GONE! Imagine how joyful it would be to put those HAPPY masks in a spot where every time we look at them we could be THANKFUL that the fear, pain, suffering, sadness and grief this pandemic has caused IS HISTORY!

I really appreciate your patience and understanding. If you’d like to check on your order here is the customer service number for Fine Art America:

THANK YOU for being part of my wonderful TEAM SENKARIK Family! With Grateful Hugs,

Mother’s Love

May 10, 2020

Mother’s Love by Jack White

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”  1 Corinthians 13:13

Mothers are truly amazing; they are selfless and labor tirelessly to nurture their families. This year they are working especially hard as we “Shelter at Home”; juggling the multiple hats of being parent, cook, chief procurement officer, teacher and childcare giver. Plus, many have the added responsibility of continuing to work from their home with all the distractions that brings. A Mother’s Love is like that of no other.

“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” Proverbs 31:25-28

I’d like to thank all of you for your Love, Dedication and Hard Work. So here’s to you AWESOME MOTHERS in my TEAM SENKARIK FAMILY….

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY!

GOLDEN EYES

May 4, 2020

This painting is for Hall of Fame Football Coach Grant Teaff and his wife, Donell. Grant was the Head Coach of the Baylor Bears from 1972 to 1992 and Jack always considered him to be his brother. Coach suggested I paint a BEAR to go on FACE MASKS for him and Donell. So I’m doing this piece in the JACK WHITE Style to hang alongside Jack’s Gold Leaf Bear in the Teaff’s suite at the McLane Stadium in Waco.

VIDEO DEMONSTRATION: Sketching the Grizzly up on the canvas.

The background is painted with several mixes of Viridian Green + a touch of Pthalo Blue + MUD + White. It’s made darker on the left side of the canvas and becomes progressively lighter as I work toward the right. This accentuates the light illuminating the Grizzly’s left side.

The hair around the edges of the bear are pulled into the wet paint of the background. Working wet-into-wet allows me to keep the brushstrokes soft, giving the Grizzly’s body a feeling of roundness.

The Grizzly’s rough coat is painted with mixes in various combinations of MUD + Cadmium Orange + a little Cadmium Red Light + White. A large brush is used at first to block the color in, then a smaller brush is used to delineate the individual hairs.

“Golden Eyes”

Originally I had the Grizzly’s mouth open. However when consulting with Coach and Donell, we agreed the Bear would be more stately and proud if his mouth wasn’t open. Donell also pointed out that Jack’s other large animals had their mouths closed. So we snapped that mouth shut and here is “Golden Eyes” painted in the style of “Our Jack White”!
