Welcome News

I received some welcome news a couple of days ago, my Santa Fe gallery sold two small paintings last week! The first sales of my art in the gallery since Mr. Covid came to visit at the beginning of March. So this piece is to fill one of those empty spots on their wall! The basic plan is first sketched on the canvas in a thin oil wash of MUD (2 parts Ultramarine Blue + 1 part Alizarin Crimson) + Liquin. The adobe walls, so typical of Santa Fe, are painted with several combinations of MUD + Cadmium Orange + a touch of Pthalo Blue + White. The shadow mixes have more MUD, the lighter ones have lots of White.

I pull out two special colors for the door and window box, Sevres Green and Dioxazine Purple.

I love how the Sevres Green door and the Dioxazine Purple flower box look together.

The surface of the floor is covered with mixes of Cadmium Orange + Cadmium Red Light + MUD and Cadmium Orange + Cadmium Red Light + MUD + White. A few strokes of the door color are made in the floor below the door to give the appearance of it reflecting into the tile. Then the lines separating the individual pavers are drawn into the wet paint with fine liner brush.

The window is painted with Ultramarine Blue + White. A T-Square is placed on the top of my canvas. Then I pull my brush down, along the edge, to help me make the window sash perfectly upright.

All the construction is complete, we’ll begin planting flowers in our next session. Hope you’ll come back and watch!
