Joyful Vista

October 31, 2020

Soft lavender Wisteria, draping over the arch and door, is painted with mixes of Dioxazine Purple + Ultramarine Blue + White and Dioxazine Purple + White. Please keep in mind as you read through my blog, you may click on any of the images to view enlargements.

After highlighting the gnarled trunk of the Wisteria, the bright Orange blossoms of the Canna Lilies are embellished. Mixtures of Cadmium Orange + Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Light and Cadmium Orange have been used. Then the large leaves are made with several combinations of Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Yellow Medium + White.

White + Dioxazine Purple, White + Ultramarine Blue and White + Pthalo Blue make up the shadows on the White Daisies. The sunlit petals are accented with Pure White.

In repainting the flowers, their centers were obliterated. So they are added back in with mixes of Cadmium Orange + Alizarin Crimson and Cadmium Red Light. On the left you can see where I’m putting the dark dot in the middle with a mixture of Ultramarine Blue + Alizarin Crimson.

Silver Ponyfoot Vine cascades out of the terra cotta container beneath brilliant red Geraniums. The blossoms are painted with Cadmium Red Light + Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Deep, Cadmium Red Light and Cadmium Red Light + White.

Stately Hollyhocks stand tall, welcoming visitors to this delightful courtyard. The Crepe Paper like flowers are mixes of Permanent Rose + White.

“Vista of Joy” is completely embellished.

Now you can see how the LIMITED ORIGINAL embellishing process makes the Giclee come alive! Thanks for following my blog. And please feel free to ask questions in the comments section. Have a joyful day!

Tuscan Sun

October 29, 2020

Starting to embellish another of the LIMITED ORIGINAL Giclees for my collector’s Dental Office. This one is “Vista of Joy”! It’s also a Tuscan scene with San Gimignano in the background, we have a closer view in this painting. So here it is – unembellished!

My first step is to glaze the blue field of the sky with a thin oil wash of Pthalo Blue + Liquin. The area above and to the right of the top of my brush has been glazed. That to the left has not. You may click on the image to enlarge it so you can see this better.

The sunlit clouds are highlighted with combinations of White + Ultramarine Blue + Cadmium Orange.

The tall towers of the medieval hilltop village, San Gimignano, project high above the rolling Tuscan landscape. The ancient stone structures, warmed by the setting sun, are accentuated with different mixes of Cadmium Orange + Cadmium Yellow Medium + Alizarin Crimson + Ultramarine Blue + White.

Large, cheery Sunflowers, planted just beyond the terrace wall, dance and bob in the breeze. The distinctive flowers are re-painted with Cadmium Yellow Medium, Cadmium Yellow Medium + Cadmium Orange, and Cadmium Yellow Medium + Lemon Yellow.

Before                                          After

The scene through the arch is complete. Compare the Before and After, you can see what a difference the embellishing makes. Please come back, I have more work to do on “Vista of Joy”!

Embellishing Tuscany

October 27, 2020

Today I’m starting to embellish a series of my LIMITED ORIGINAL Giclees on Canvas. These are going to be for a collector who is a Dentist. They will hang in his exam rooms for his patients to enjoy as he works on their teeth! The first piece is “A Glimpse of Tuscany”. Let’s begin by repainting the towers and terra cotta rooftops of the distant village of San Gimignano. Please remember as you read through my blog, you may click on any of the images to see them larger.

Next the shutters and door are glazed with a thin oil mixture of Pthalo Blue + Liquin. The portion of the door above my brush has been glazed. Notice the difference from the blue below.

The large, rough stones of the foreground columns are accentuated. This makes them appear to come forward from the building in the background.

The terra cotta tiles of the courtyard floor are glazed with an oil mix of Burnt Sienna + Liquin. The sunlit tiles surrounding my brush have been glazed; those to the right of the column have not. You can see how much richer the glazed portion of the floor on the left is.

The edges of the tiles, illuminated by the sun, are highlighted.

Bougainvillea, cascading over the courtyard wall, are repainted with several combinations of Permanent Rose + White. The leaves are made with Viridian Green + White.

Geraniums fill large terra cotta containers nestled at the base of the open archway leading to the vineyard. The flowers are mixes of Cadmium Red Light + Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Red Light and Cadmium Red Light + White. Hydrangeas to the right of the column have been painted with Dioxazine Purple + White and Dioxazine Purple + Ultramarine Blue + White.

I’ve decided to change the Penstemmon in the lower left corner to Angelonia by adding tall stems of buds on the tops of the flowers.

Nasturtium are painted with several shades of Cadmium Orange + Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Orange and Cadmium Yellow Medium. After the distinctive round leaves are accented with Viridian Green + Cadmium Yellow Medium + White, the deep centers of the flowers are added with Magenta + Liquin.

“A Glimpse of Tuscany” is complete! I’ve compressed a couple of days of studio time into one session.

Here are images of the piece, before it was embellished and then after. Click on the picture to see an enlargement. You’ll enjoy comparing the difference! Thanks for following along. Please come back, I’ll have more in this series!

The first piece is called “HIDDEN BLESSINGS”. When Jack and I moved to our current home in 2014, we brought a Bird of Paradise in a large blue ceramic container from our previous home, to grace our front porch. I was so disappointed because “Birdie” had never bloomed for us there, I just knew he would produce some flowers here at our new house. However…..after all this time my hopes have been for naught. He grew and grew but nary a bloom.

THEN, a few weeks ago, I was watering “Birdie”. I’d been working around the large plant for quite a while when my heart suddenly jumped with delight. There were 2 flower buds on our Big Bird! They were very difficult to spot, they were “HIDDEN BLESSINGS”!

“HIDDEN BLESSINGS”   Embryo 10 inches by 10 inches

The buds burst into blooms and I’ve been enjoying the beautiful, bird shaped flowers ever since. I painting one of them as a wonderful reminder that even in the midst of this Covid season there are many “HIDDEN BLESSINGS” to be found!

WIN this Senkarik Original Oil Painting and enjoy a “HIDDEN BLESSING”, filled with my delight and surprise, every day in your home or office. Christmas is rapidly approaching, give that flower lover in your life the GIFT of a Senkarik “Billboard of Happiness”, so they may view this expression of your love for years to come.

“HIDDEN BLESSINGS”, a 10 inch by 10 inch EMBRYO on Cradled Panel with Black Edges, is valued at $590. BUT the bid begins at ONLY A PENNY!

“GLEAMING IN THE SUN”   Embryo 10 inches by 10 inches

From my front porch to the Sunny Mediterranean! I’ve had the idea for this painting for a long time. I decided now is the time to do it. One of my favorite memories of traveling through the villages of Spain, as well as many of the other Mediterranean countries, is the white and creamy stucco buildings topped with Terra Cotta tile roofs.

CLICK HERE TO GO DIRECTLY TO MY eBay AUCTIONS

Feel the warmth of the brilliant Mediterranean sun as it splashes over the rooftops, warming the terra cotta tiles and making the stucco buildings GLEAM IN THE SUN! This Senkarik Embryo is painted on a Cradled Panel with 1 1/2 inch sides. No framing is necessary and the painting is wired on the back, ready to hang on your wall.

Adopt this cheerful EMBRYO to brighten your home with glistening Mediterranean sun and warmth. Or give someone you love the Gift of Sunshine for Christmas. A Senkarik “BillBoard of Happiness” brings joy and smiles for generations. This 10 inch by 10 inch Embryo is valued at $590. However, the BIDDING STARTS at ONLY 1 CENT! That’s right, you could potentially WIN this Senkarik Original Oil EMBRYO for ONLY A PENNY!

BUT DON’T DELAY, I’ve staggered the ends of the auctions so you may WIN BOTH EMBRYOS! The Auction for “GLEAMING IN THE SUN” ENDS THURSDAY, October 15 at 9:10PM Eastern Time. The Auction for “HIDDEN BLESSINGS” ENDS at 9:20PM Eastern Time, or 6:20PM West Coast Time!

Evening’s Allure Embellished!

October 12, 2020

We’re REALLY going to see some changes now that I’m embellishing the colorful flowers on the terrace. The Bougainvillea is repainted with mixes of Permanent Rose + White, Permanent Rose + Cadmium Red Light + White, Permanent Rose + Cadmium Orange + White and Cadmium Red Light + White. Please remember as you read through my blog, you may click on any of the images to see them larger.

Sun tipped Geranium petals of Cadmium Red Light and Cadmium Red Light + White glisten against the cool blue water in the background.

The lowering light illuminates the edges of the gate pickets. You can also see the long arms of the Bouganvillea peeking through the openings.

It’s fun adding the highlights on the Wine Bottle, Glasses and Grapes. The front edge of the Cobalt Blue table is also accented, giving the appearance that it comes forward.

Cadmium Yellow Medium makes the chairs glow in the warmth of the sunset.

Combinations of Cadmium Yellow Medium + Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Yellow Medium and Cadmium Yellow Medium + Alizarin Crimson complete the Daisies! The delicate Petunias have been repainted with several mixtures of Magenta + White.

What a difference embellishing makes! That’s the unembellished giclee, straight from my printer, on the left. Now you can see why my hand embellished Giclees on Canvas are called LIMITED ORIGINALS. With all the extensive painting in oils on each colorful, high resolution, digital image, no two are exactly alike. And it’s personally signed on the front like my Original Oil Paintings. So even though each one is part of a limited edition, every single piece is original. That’s how Jack came up with the term: LIMITED ORIGINALS.

After drying a few days “Evening’s Allure” will be ready to head to it’s new home, filling Janet’s heart with joyful anticipation of her trip to Santorini! Thank you for following along.

I’m going to have a couple more eBay auctions this week. Come find out what they are in my next post! With Colorful Smiles and Big Hugs,

Embellishing Santorini

October 9, 2020

Embellishing one of my Limited Original Giclees of Santorini, Greece is my next project. I love painting this beautiful Greek island with crisp white buildings, blue doors, domes and windows, all draped with bright Bougainvilleas. My collector who commissioned this piece is going to be heading there next year! One of these days I hope to visit this magical place myself. BUT, enough dreaming! Let’s get to work. Here’s the unembellished giclee up on my easel.

First the clouds are glazed with a thin oil wash of Magenta + Liquin. It’s very subtle; however, this adds a rosy hue to the clouds as they are warmed by the setting sun.

Next the sun and its brilliant reflections, shimmering on the water, are repainted.

The distant buildings glimmer in the lowering light. The white buildings are accented with mixes of White + a little Ultramarine Blue + MUD (2 parts Ultramarine Blue + 1 part Alizarin Crimson). These whites are very muted which makes them recede. To see this better, just enlarge the image by clicking on the picture.

The dome and windows of the church have been glazed with a thin oil wash of Cobalt Blue + Liquin.  Then crisper, more pure Whites are used to repaint the lightest portions of the walls. The mixes are White + a touch of Ultramarine Blue and White + a tiny bit of Cadmium Orange + Ultramarine Blue. Looking at the water, above my hand, you’ll notice it’s darker. I glazed that area with a very thin mixture of Ultramarine Blue + MUD + Liquin.

The gate in the foreground is glazed with a darker mix of Cobalt Blue + Liquin.

I’ve reserved Pure White for the sunlit part of the terrace wall. Notice how this jumps forward of the more muted whites in the distance.

Even though I haven’t even started on the flowers, yellow chairs or table in the foreground, there is already a definite difference from the unembellished version of “Evening’s Allure”! The Giclee Reproductions of my paintings are more muted and the tones cooler than my Originals. Embellishing and repainting the Giclee makes it “REALLY POP”! Just wait ’til we’re done and all of the warm colors in the foreground are enhanced! I appreciate you following along. Make sure to come back so you can see the finished Limited Original.
