Off to Venice!

The next LIMITED ORIGINAL Giclee I’m going to embellish for my Collector’s Dental Office is “Reflections of Romance”! So, we’re off to Venice! Only on my easel of course! The unembellished giclee is shown above.

The first thing is to glaze the most distant buildings with a thin oil wash of Raw Sienna + Liquin. This increases the feeling of warmth from the setting sun. Please remember as you read through my blog, you may click on any of the images to view enlargements.

The structure on the right side is then glazed with Burnt Sienna + Liquin to make the color of the terra cotta stucco richer. A wash of Viridian Green + Liquin accentuates these doors and windows. The roof tiles on all of the buildings are also highlighted, adding to the impression of sunset. The shutters, door and awning of the golden buildings in the back are glazed with Pthalo Blue + Liquin.

Ribbons on the Gondolier’s hat are accentuated with Cadmium Red Light. The gold trim on the Gondola is brightened up with mixes of Cadmium Yellow Medium + a touch of MUD (2 parts Ultramarine Blue + 1 part Alizarin Crimson) + White.

Mixes of Magenta + White are used to repaint the Bougainvillea cascading over the old stone wall.

The flickering glow of the gas lanterns is intensified with combinations of Cadmium Yellow Medium + Cadmium Orange + White and Cadmium Yellow Medium + White.

After glazing the floor of the foreground terrace with Burnt Sienna + Liquin, the edges of the individual tiles are highlighted.

The Wine Glasses and Bottle are now repainted.

The bright colors of Angelonia POP against the darker, more muted tones of the building in the background. The flowers are painted with mixes of Permanent Rose + White, Permanent Rose + Cadmium Red Light + White and Cadmium Red Light + White.

Geraniums are made of Cadmium Red Deep, Cadmium Red Deep + Cadmium Red Light and Cadmium Red Light. Then mixes of Pthalo Blue + Lemon Yellow are used for the leaves.

We’re done! This is actually several sessions compressed into one. I don’t know about you but I’m ready to sit on that terrace, take a sip of wine and enjoy the “Reflections of Romance” dancing on the canal!

Now you can see the difference between the unembellished Giclee on the left and the LIMITED ORIGINAL Hand Embellished Giclee on the right. Jack came up with the term LIMITED ORIGINAL because even though these are part of a Limited Edition, no two pieces are embellished exactly alike. Each one is an Original!

Thank you for following along. Hope you’ll come back and visit my studio. I have one more piece to embellish for my Collector’s Dental Office! HUGS,
