Embellishing a Mallorcan Terrace

Today, on my easel, we’re traveling to Mallorca, Spain! This is the last of the LIMITED ORIGINAL Hand Embellished Giclees on Canvas for my collector’s office. Here is “Serenade of Mallorca”, before any painting has been done on the high resolution digital reproduction.

The blue portion of the sky is glazed with a thin oil mixture of Pthalo Blue + Liquin. The area above and to the right of my brush has been glazed. The lighter part of the blue sky to the left has not. Please keep in mind as you read through my blog, you may click on any of the images to see them larger.

Fluffy clouds, floating above the horizon, are highlighted with a mix of White + Cadmium Orange + Ultramarine Blue.

The ocean has been repainted with mixes of Ultramarine Blue + MUD (2 parts Ultramarine Blue + 1 part Alizarin Crimson) + White, Ultramarine Blue + White, Ultramarine Blue + Pthalo Blue + White, Ptahlo Blue + White and Turquoise Pthalo Blue + White. Then the splashes of surf, from the waves crashing against the base of the rocky outcroppings, are painted with White + a tiny bit of Ultramarine Blue.

The twisting trunk of the Bougainvillea is repainted with combinations of MUD + Cadmium Orange and MUD + Cadmium Orange + White.

Combinations of Permanent Rose + White, in varying proportions, are used for the colorful bracts of the Bougainvillea. The leaves are mixes of Viridian Green + White and Viridian Green + Pthalo Blue + White.

After repainting the wrought iron door handle, our attention turns to the Valencia Orange Tree planted in the terra cotta container by the doorway.

Geraniums and Sweet Potato Vine under the citrus tree are also painted. Next the large, distinctive blossoms of the Sunflowers are made with mixes of Cadmium Yellow Medium + Cadmium Orange + MUD, Cadmium Yellow Medium + Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Yellow Medium and Lemon Yellow. Ptahlo Blue + Cadmium Yellow Medium is used for the leaves of the Sunflowers.

African Daisies dance to the tune of the music made by the water cascading from the fountain. The blooms are Cadmium Orange, Cadmium Red Light, Alizarin Crimson + White and Cadmium Red Light + White. Gray-green leaves are several different shades of Pthalo Blue + Cadmium Orange + White.

“Serenade of Mallorca” is completely embellished.

It’s fun to compare the difference between the Before and After.  I’m always amazed at how much richer the Giclee is after all the glazing and repainting is finished! I appreciate you following along today and do hope you’ll come back again soon. With Colorful Smiles and Big Hugs,
