The vine draping over the roof is painted in two steps. #1. The flowers are first blocked-in with mixes of Alizarin Crimson + White and Alizarin Crimson + Cadmium Red Light + White. #2. Heart-shaped leaves are added with Viridian Green + White, Viridian Green + Pthalo Blue + White and Pthalo Blue + White.

The entire tile floor is painted to establish the shadows and sunlight splashing across the surface. Then the perspective lines of the individual pavers are drawn, free hand, into the wet paint with a thin oil mix of MUD (2 parts Ultramarine Blue + 1 part Alizarin Crimson + Liquin Original).

The tiles of the curved planter are mixes of Ultramarine Blue + Liquin Original and Ultramarine Blue + White. Grout lines are delineated with White + Ultramarine Blue.

Magenta + White Petunias tumble out of terra cotta pots on the window sills. They are painted in the same sequence as the vine: Flowers First, Leaves Last.

A Crimson Geranium pops against the Blue/Green door. The blossoms are Cadmium Red Deep + Magenta, Cadmium Red Deep, Cadmium Red Deep + Cadmium Red Light and Cadmium Red Light + White.

Silver Pony Foot Vine cascades out from under the protection of the Pthalo Blue + Lemon Yellow foliage of the Geranium.

Since the Salvia’s blooms tower above the soft green leaves, it’s blocked-in opposite of the other flowering plants. The lavender blossoms, made of Dioxazine Purple + White, are painted last.

Bright Red-Orange African Daisies glow next to the complimentary Blue of the tile planter. They are Cadmium Red Light + Alizarin Crimson + White, Alizarin Crimson + White, Cadmium Red Light + Cadmium Orange and Cadmium Orange.

Centers of the Daisies are added in 3 steps. #1. A dark dot of MUD + Liquin Original is made in the middle of each bloom. #2. A Cadmium Yellow Medium disk is then added inside that. #3. Finally a tiny spot of the MUD mix is centered within the Yellow.

Mixes of White + Ultramarine Blue, White + Dioxazine Purple and White + Pthalo Blue are used for the shadowed parts of the White Hollyhocks. Highlights are Pure White + a tiny bit of Cadmium Orange. This White is warmer than that of the stucco walls, which makes it appear to come forward.

Magenta centers, Cadmium Lemon Yellow stamens and tall, seed pod covered stalks complete the stately White Hollyhocks. This ABUNDANTLY COLORFUL garden provides a cheerful greeting to everyone visiting this Spanish styled abode. As soon as it dries a little, this piece is all set to go the the gallery in Wimberly, ready for a collector to give it a new home and to welcome their guests!
