Chet’s Hawaiian Shirt

Starting to work on Chet’s Hawaiian Shirt. The dark background, made of mixes of Ivory Black + a little Ultramarine Blue + White, is painted first. Then combinations of Ultramarine Blue + a touch of Ivory Black + White are used for the design of Blue Protea Flowers. Please remember as you read through my blog, you may click on any of the images to view enlargements.

 VIDEO DEMONSTRATION: Chet’s Hawaiian Shirt

The flowers are painted loosely with thick brushstrokes to give an impressionistic feeling. I don’t want a lot of tight detail here because it would take away from Chet and Betty’s faces. They are the Stars of the Painting.

Buttons on Chet’s shirt are painted with the same mixes as used on the background of the pattern.

Betty’s blouse is washed in with a mix of Turquoise Pthalo Blue + Liquin, I’ll paint it later after I’ve completed her face.

I’ll begin working on Chet in our next session, hope you’ll come back to join me and follow along! I pray that all of you and your families are safe. This is a crazy time, so please take care of yourselves!
